Ingredients: 1 1/2 Cup(s) Butter, divided 1 1/2 Cup(s) White Sugar, divided 1 Cup(s) Powdered Sugar 2 Each(s) Eggs 1 Teaspoon(s) Salt 1/2 Cup(s) Cooking Oil 1 Teaspoon(s) Vanilla 4 Cup(s) Flour (plus 4 Tablespoons) 1 Teaspoon(s) Baking Soda 1 Teaspoon(s) Cream of Tartar (or 1/2 t. Baking Powder) |
Directions:
Cream together 1 c. butter and 1 c. white sugar and 1 c. powdered sugar. Beat together separately and add well-beaten eggs and salt. Add cooking oil and vanilla. Sift together and add flour, soda and cream of tartar. Refrigerate dough for an hour.
With a small spoon, take pieces of dough the size of a walnut. Roll into a ball between your hands and place an inch apart on a greased cookie sheet. Put 1/2 c. granulated sugar in a small sauce dish sauce dish and be ready with a glass tumbler about 2-1/2" diameter to be used for dipping in the sugar and pressing the dough flat. As soon as the tumbler is oily, it picks up enough sugar to decorate the top of the cookie and at the same time prevents the dough from sticking.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes. |
